The electrolytic cleaning line (ECL) plays a critical role in surface aspects of automotive-grade carbon steel. Its purpose is to make the steel surface free from oil and iron fines and deposit a thin silicate layer on it. Conventionally cleaning tests are performed off-line and need samples with a large surface area.
